<p>I bought this part last summer and never had the chance to replace the original until now. Usually I post in detail about the process but this is a relatively easy swap. Enjoy the photos.</p>

<p>These steel braided hoses are amazing. I can&#8217;t wait to get my new master cylinder in and test the front brakes.</p>

<p>I plugged it right into the original master cylinder for now. I&#8217;m getting a modern radial master cylinder to replace it. The banjo bolt is a little rusted but still works like a charm.</p>

<p>New pads, new steel hoses, and a new master cylinder on its way. Slowly but surely the front end is looking good. I&#8217;ll get new forks and bars this winter after the riding season.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After the winter break I noticed that the front brake felt squishy and had lost some of its stopping power. I didn&#8217;t think much of it, I simply bled the brakes, added more brake fluid and thought that would fix the problem. A few days later on one of my morning rides, I noticed brake fluid leaking onto my right hand from the master cylinder, upon further inspection I also noticed that my brake pad was well beyond worn, so I decided to take the whole thing apart, paint the calipers, replace the pads, and get some shiny new steel braided brake hoses.</p>

<p>This is my only method for draining the brake fluid since my bleeder screw broke off last summer. I had to remove the metal brake line that connects to the outer caliper, stick it in a plastic bottle, and squeeze the brake lever till it all squirted out.</p>

<p>The outer caliper looks pretty rough. You can see the busted bleeder screw in this pic. This was easy enough to remove, just unscrew the two bolts.</p>

<p>Yuck, crusty and caked on filth. These bolts can&#8217;t be salvaged.</p>

<p>Yuck. The upper hose and banjo bolt are fairly rotten. I should have replace these last year. My suspicion is the rubber housing that sits over the shoulder of the banjo bolt locked in moisture over the years and caused the extreme oxidation. I don&#8217;t plan on using the rubber insert when I install my steel braided hoses.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I had been holding off bleeding my brakes until the speed bleeder I ordered arrived. It finally came in during the week and I started the process yesterday morning. A fairly simple procedure unless you factor in a 32 year old brake caliper. I had everything prepared. I had my little tube and cup for draining the fluid. I had my brand new speed bleeder, and new bottle of brake fluid. All I needed to do was turn the bleed screw. Which I did&#8230; a little too much. It snapped off.</p>

<p>Okay&#8230; no big deal, right? I was going to replace the bleed screw with the speed bleeder anyway. So I grab a pair of pliers and attempt to squeeze and turn.</p>
<p>Nothing. It wouldn&#8217;t come out.</p>
<p>So I try some vise grips.</p>
<p>Nothing.</p>
<p>Tonight I&#8217;ll to try one more thing. Use my dremel to cut a slot on the top of the screw and then a flat head screwdriver to try to remove it.</p>
<p>My Friday morning, as it turns out, was a complete waste. After I was unable to bleed the brakes I decided to remove the brake line and replace it with a shiny new one I ordered a while back.</p>
<p>No luck.</p>
<p>The brake line was frozen in the lower brake hose. I tried turning it with everything I had.</p>
